In our science topic of Life cyles, Year 5 explored the environment around school to find seeds and fruits. We also dissected flowers to investigate the reproductive systems of plants.
Year 5 had a great time with visiting sports - Freddy Fit and Karate. There were some exhausting exercises to complete but everyone tried their best! Look at our super hula hoopers! We decided that although it looked easy, it was 'easier said than done'.
World Peace Day was on Wednesday 21st September. We all visited the peace garden and spent a little quiet time reflecting on our world and praying for peace. We decided that the best way of spreading peace was to begin in our own community.
As part of our Geography topic about Coastlines, we went to Formby Point to investigate how the coastline is changing. We explored the sand dunes and learned about how to protect them. Did you know that old Christmas trees are used to help protect the dunes? Whilst we there, we were even lucky enough to see some red squirrels! During our visit, we took a little time to reflect on the beauty of our surroundings, and we prayed to God to thank him for his wonderful creation.
We had a brilliant day, although it was a bit cold. We even did some wheelchair racing in the dunes! Guess who won!
Some of our musicians had the chance to visit Crompton House School, to watch a performance by Chetham's Youth Symphony Orchestra. What a brilliant experience this was!The orchestra played some pieces from 'Pictures at an Exhibition' by the Russian composer, Mussorgsky. Later, our children got a chance to meet some of these talented musicians, and explored the instruments in more detail.
